Did you know that, just like the carton of eggs that you buy at the grocery store, your labels and ribbons have a recommended shelf-life too? All of McCourt’s ribbons have a maximum shelf life of 1 year. Keep in mind that this is not 1 year from the date you received them, but 1 year from the manufactured date. As with ribbons, your labels rolls, whether static cling or lo tac material, have storage guidelines and specific shelf-lives.
See the storage guidelines below when it comes to getting the best performance out of your supplies:
- Keeping your printer and supplies in a temperature-controlled environment is ideal for performance.
- Labels, whether static cling or low tack, have a shelf life of one year.
- Ribbons can be stored in conditions that are between 40° and 95° F
- Storing labels in overheated or cold environments can cause the low tack adhesives to dry out and can affect print quality on low tack and static cling material. Most labels are recommended to be stored around 72°F. Storing static cling labels in temps over 75°F can cause plasticizers to migrate and cause labels to stick together.
- Relative humidity can also be a factor that affects printer and label performance. A maximum of 50% relative humidity is recommended for printers and labels. Storing labels in an airtight plastic bag can reduce the humidity that labels are exposed to.
